We have adopted two dogs from PAWS in the past 5-6 years. They are the goofiest, happiest little clowns and our lives wouldn't be the same had they not come into it! Keep up the good work and thank you for our fur babies, Rocket and Shadow. Very sincerely, Ann and Chuck
Roxy's Story - We met Roxy in April while looking
for a running partner and companion dog for my husband who suffers from severe
depression. From the start she walked and ran right beside him. She was just the right size also, weighing in at 40
pounds. She was described as always being ready to go. We were
notified that she had been found as a stray and her finder found a home for
her. When that caregiver moved and couldn't take Roxy with her, her shelter life
began. We were warned that one family took her on trial and brought her back
for destructive behavior like chewing shoes, urinating indoors and jumping
fences. Would she work out for us or would she cause more frustration? We started
her out walking or running everyday for about 3 miles at a time. We got her dog
toys/chews, enrolled her in good manners class and got a kennel to
use until we knew if we could trust her. All it took was giving her what dogs
need and treating her like a dog, respecting her instinctive pack
thinking. It has now
been over 2 months since Roxy has weaseled her way into our hearts! She is not
only always ready to go, but she has a turn off switch. She very easily comes
home settles down, many times just lying next to my hubby when he is napping. Is it
helping with his depression? While not the cure-all, she is a definite help. He
is not alone while i am working long days. He has his running partner. And one
day he told me that if it hadn't been for needing to take care of her he would
have stayed in bed all day. She also
makes us spend more time together. We have taken her to several parks including areas where she can just run free in the woods. She loves going to the dog park
where she gets along with all other dogs. What
a joy to have Roxy with us. She is a true sweetheart. We are so grateful to
PAWS for letting us adopt her.Sincerely, Heather & Dennis
